PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA | July 10, 2018 — Crowned winners of the Miss Cambodia 2017, Beauty of my Kingdom, led by the reigning ‘Queen’ and Miss Universe Cambodia 2018 Rern Nat, today visited patients at Kien Khlang Leprosy Rehabilitation Center in Phnom Penh.
The initiative, which was held in support of an awareness campaign by Swiss private law non-profit foundation CIOMAL or Campagne Internationale de l’Ordre de Malte contre la lèpre, aims to help end the many stigmas associated with leprosy.
“For many years, leprosy patients have lived in isolation because many people think that it’s a highly contagious disease. This is not true. Not only is leprosy difficult to transmit, it’s also curable. In fact, in Cambodia, free medical treatment is available to people with leprosy. And we want to help send these messages to the public,” said Nat.
According to Miss Cambodia 2016 1st Runner-up and Miss Earth Cambodia 2017 | Em Kun Thong, “Today was a fun day, not just for the patients but for us as well. We did a catwalk with them, taught them how to put on makeup and many other activities. It was very fulfilling. We really had a great time.”
